There is a yo-yo on the front steps of the church

There is a yo-yo on the front steps of the church. Where did it come from? It’s a lime shade of green with a few dents and dings on the edges, with the sticker from the side torn off with just a little paper left that would probably have to be removed with rubbing alcohol. The string isn’t white anymore, probably used to be … but with age it is now more of a yellowish brown color. This yo-yo at one time was probably beautiful. Probably a bright green with a vibrant colorful sticker on the side with a bright white string waiting on the shelf of a Kay bee toys or toys r us waiting on a kid to pick it up and take it home, but not anymore.

The yo-yo is tired. It’s had a good life bringing smiles along with frustrations of not
Being able to do tricks to kids and adults. It has probably been passed around to different people to give it a spin but not as much anymore. But here it is. Here is this yo-yo ending up on its last days of use on the front steps of the church. Does it feel comfortable here? Does it know why it was left here? Does it think there is another kid going to pick it up and take it home. It doesn’t know. It waits. It waits on the steps of the church.

Isn’t this where you are in life? Going through your life, making the motions and trying to help others around you smile more, laugh more, think more of others. Your passions have been for others no matter how they wronged you or how they hurt you because you have tried to live your life as a follower of God and be the same regardless of the bumps and scuff marks along the way. Is your sticker peeling off, feeling a little faded but still working hard for others.

Did you know that God loves you and still uses you in ways that you may not understand and why is that? It is because you keep your heart open for love and positivity even when your outside is a little rougher looking than when you were brand new on that shelf of life. If you are still here, God is using you. He is using you to help others, to show others that they’re still good in this world and still hope for the future.

Have you tried to take yourself back to the steps of the church to put your heart back where it needs to be? The plan of salvation is never complicated and is actually very easy. It hasn’t changed. Every since Adam and Eve, God wants us to love him with all of our hearts and to show that by the love we show others. Stay strong and remember to give gratitude and let your service come from your love and gratification of him. Even if you don’t believe, give it a try and open your heart for others. No hate, no negativity just love and compassion. Smile, hold a door for someone, say hello to a stranger. Show others that everything is going to be ok because God loves that old yo-yo on the steps of the church. Now show others what that love is about.

Regardless of your past or your present you are still a child of God and are still able to help others. Each in our own way.

Never forget that there is a yo-yo on the front steps of the church.
